Animal Care

Rationale: To ensure all pets are kept clean and healthy.

Purpose: All animals kept at Playcentre as pets will be housed and fed appropriately.

Procedures:

A system for regular feeding, cleaning and appropriate care of any pets will be developed whenever any pet is purchased by the centre. (spell out any relevant details, who will do it? Details could be simply be included within the health and hygiene policy developed by the centre and a need for a separate policy avoided).

The rest of these guidelines are optional aspects for a policy. It is suggested these could be useful in cases where a centre is experiencing conflict over the care of animals and may wish to develop policies/ procedures to avoid it. The following points might need to be dealt with in these cases.

  • the level of handling of the pet allowed by the children.
  • how children can/ should be involved in the care of Playcentre pets.
  • procedures to be followed if a pet becomes sick or dies.
